The word 'leader' is often synonymous with an image that is full of power and is a figure that everyone knows. Some people believe that certain people are indeed born with the nature of leadership from the beginning.

But on the contrary, other people believe that leadership is a function of the environment. Even so, one can develop leadership potential that is in a person by continuing to maintain the leadership traits that are owned even though not too much.

Daniel Goleman is a writer, psychologist and also a well-known scientific journalist from America. He is often a speaker and lectures in front of professionals, business people and students alike. According to him there are many leadership styles within the company, that called six Daniel Goleman Leadership Style.

Each type of leadership has its advantages and disadvantages. In addition, everyone also has a different leadership style. Daniel Goleman identifies several people's leadership styles into 6 types, namely:

1# The coercive style
The approach can be summarized as the phrase "do what I say" to lead others. This leadership style can be effective in crisis situations, or to make decisions quickly when dealing with problems with problem employees. Although effective in some situations, this leadership style can also have a negative effect on the climate of the organization or project led.

2# The authoritative style
Leaders who use this leadership style tend to use the "come with me" approach, which means the leader has put forward the target at the beginning, but encourages people to choose their own way of achieving it. Authoritative leaders provide vision and enthusiasm by motivating others and showing every work done has certain meanings and goals.

The authoritative leadership style can succeed in most situations in the organization, but this approach is not the best approach if the leader is inexperienced and works with more experienced people

3# The Affiliative Style
This type of leader assumes that "other people must take precedence". Affiliative leaders prioritize individual values rather than targets and work, and try to please all parties.

Affiliative leaders also tend to build strong emotional relationships that can lead to employee loyalty. Flexibility in leadership of this type is higher because leaders do not issue policies that regulate how work must be completed.

However, the weakness of this leadership style is the ambiguity of some people who must be given certain direction in carrying out difficult tasks. In addition, relationships that are too close can also lead to the perception that ordinary work results will be tolerated.

4# The Democratic style
This type tries to develop consensus through the participation of its workers by asking "What do you think?" Using this leadership style, leaders use time to gather ideas from others while building a sense of trust and respect.

Democratic styles can be used optimally when leaders need to get valuable input from others, but can also lead to countless meetings because they don't get agreement.

5# The Pacesetting style
This fifth type Daniel Goleman Leadership Style can be described as a leader who sets high standards in carrying out work and has an attitude of "do what I do now".

These types of leaders tend to want their work to be done as well as possible with the shortest possible time, so that workers with low work performance can be quickly identified and replaced if they do not meet the standards. However, this method can cause other people to lose enthusiasm because their work is task-focused and carried out as a boring routine.

6# The Coaching Style
this type of leader tends to use this "please try" approach to help others find strengths and weaknesses so that they can achieve their goals, both personal goals and organizational goals. Coaching leaders are also good at delegating and giving challenging tasks, but can be resolved, even small mistakes made will be considered positive learning. This leadership style is effectively used in an environment with people who have the desire to learn.
